After completing his training at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow, Melnikov launched his professional career with performances at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris; the Zahi Hadid Gala Dinner at the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg; the launch of Hyundai’s Sonata; Formula E’s Transformation showcase video; and many more private and public events. Melnikov then turned his hand to audio-visual art, with his debut piece – ‘Cognition’, a collaboration with Russian design studio Radugadesign – debuting in Spring 2017. The piece was a dynamic exploration of light, colour, and wholeness, and was presented exclusively at Stockholm’s City Hall. The installation was swiftly followed by Melnikov’s second flagship audio-visual showcase, ‘Music For Flowers’, which he performed live at Moscow’s Apothecary Garden in August 2018. In the electronic sphere, Nikola Melnikov has released two extended plays on Anjunadeep, ‘Sphinx’ and ‘Sun Wakes Up Earlier Than All/Pandawa’, alongside his long-term production collaborator, Max Sorokin. The releases have thus far garnered support from the likes of Lane 8, Ben Böhmer, Eelke Kleijn, James Grant, and Eli & Fur. На сцене — два рояля: один звучит под управлением Мельникова, второй — самоиграющий инструмент, реагирующий на импульсы от растений через устройства Biotron. Так рождается диалог между композитором и природой: прикосновение к цветку превращается в звук, а движение танцовщиков становится продолжением живого сигнала. Режиссёром постановки стал Артём Немов. В ней участвуют четыре артиста современного балета, которые вместе с растениями создают историю внутреннего пробуждения — от удивления и любви до разрушения и откровения. «Для меня это не просто балет, — говорит Мельников, — а пространство, где природа, технологии и звук живут как единое тело». After making an expedition to the island of Olkhon and driving about 1000 km through the steppes and ice, he accidentally came to the settlement "Nikola", in the very place where the ice melts and the Angara River flows out of the lake.
